                              | Story and pics by Oliver Franke | Berlin, 21st March 2009: A massive opening of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championships series happened in Berlin on last Saturday with the NIGHT of the JUMPs. 12 riders out of nine nations came to Germanys capital city for the of the first World Championship points 2009. In the totally sold out o2 World arena the 11.000 spectators saw World Champion Remi Bizouard took the win ahead of Spanish Jose Miralles and Vice World Champion Libor Podmol (CZE).

In the qualification the three Germans Fabian Bauersachs, Freddy Peters and Hannes Ackermann fought against the rest of the World, but none of them made it into the final. Local hero Freddy Peters crashed, Ackermann had a solid run but not spectacular enough and Bauersachs missed the final only by 3 points. Remi Bizouard, Brice Izzo Jose Miralles Libor Podmol, Fredrik Johansson and Massimo Bianconcini reached the final. In the break the spectators saw the team of Miralles and Bianconcini win the ADAC Whip-Contest. Gille Dejong and Libor Podmol won the Highest Air contest with 8,00 Meters. After the flips of Hugo Arriazii on his ATV quad and Yostein Stenbergs with his Ski-do the crowd gone totally insane. Both were premiers on the IFMXF tracks.

  Libor Podmol
Even not less spectacular it was in the final, that Remi Bizouard could win. With his smoothness he did Cliffhanger, Ruler and Switchblade to Switchblade Flip. But Spanish Miralles was close and marked that he is one of the favorites for the World Championship title 2009. Like Bizouard Miralles got 310 points, but the Frenchie had the better qualification result, so 1st place went to him.

Miralles wanted to show the No-Hand-Flip to No-Hand Landing in the Double-up, but had to grab the handlebar in between. 3rd position went to Libor Podmol, who did Cliffhanger, Tsunami und Switchblade Flip. It is hard to believe that Brice Izzo got 4th by doing Shaolin Flip, Tsunami Flip and the Lazyboy Flip as a German premier.

In the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship Remi Bizouard leads with 20 points ahead of Jose Miralles with 18 points and Libor Podmol with 16. The next NGHT of the JUMPs / FIM Freestyle MX World Championship round will happen on Sunday in Berlin.

Berlin, 22nd March 2009: On Sunday the o2 World arena in Berlin was packed again. 8.000 spectators came to see the 12 FM riders out of nine nations. „El Loco“ Jose Miralles won with a final run in Racing style and came to his first victory at the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship. 2nd place went to French Brice Izzo by doing a backflip firework ahead of US-Boy Brody Wilson.

  Jose Miralles
But first the riders had to make it thru the qualification, which got to a crash test. First Libor Podmol had to kiss the dirt after the landing of a flip. Then Massimo Bianconcini crashed hard. He had to get off the bike while rotating a Underflip. But luckily he got no injury. Finally World Champion and winner of Saturday’s contest Remi Bizouard could not finish his run. After a huge Switchblade Flip his pegs of the bike broke. So three final riders from Saturday were out of the game. Fabian Bauersachs, Fredrik Johansson, Brody Wilson, Brice Izzo, Steve Mini and the new IFMXF superstar Jose Miralles made it into the final.

  Brody Wilson

In the break the team Australia-USA with Steve Mini and Brody Wilson won the ADAC Fahrsicherheitszentrum Linthe Whip-Contest. Highest Air went to Gilles Dejong with 7,00 Meters. And again Yostein Stenberg and Hugo Arriazii did massive Backflips with the Ski-Do and the ATV. In the final the crowd pushed German rider Fabian Bauersachs. By doing a No-Hand-Flip to 1-Hand-Landing he reached 6th place. 5th position went to Fredrik Johansson with tricks like Stripper or the Cordova Flip. Finally DownUnder-Boy Steve Mini seems to feel better and better on European ground. At his first IFMXF final ever he did triple trick-combos, Lazyboy to No-Hand-Landing, Superflip, Clickerflip and Suicide Flip to 1-Hand-Landing. He ended up 4th, missing the podium only by a few points. This reached Brody Wilson with perfect extensions and his well-known style.

  Brice Izzo

2nd place went to Brice Izzo with massive flip combos like Shaolin Flip, Tsunami Flip, Superman Seatgrab Flip and Lazyboy Flip. But even that was not enough to beat Jose Miralles this day. He started a trick firework and did a No-Hand-Flip to No-Hand-Landing in the Double-up and amazed spectators and the judges.

Brody Wison, Jose Miralles and Brice Izzo After the 2nd contest of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship Jose Miralles leads with 38 points ahead of Brice Izzo (32 points) and Libor Podmol (25 points). Round 3 and 4 take place on 17th/18th April in Graz/Austria.
